Intra-school netball

We had a fantastic afternoon of sport today. Our fantastic captains and vice captains organised lots of netball activities and all of KS2 joined in and won lots of points for their teams. At the end of the afternoon the scores were added up and the winning team were discovery (blue team). It was lovely to see fantastic sporting behaviors with the older children encouraging and leading their teams really well.

Welcome back!

Welcome back to the new school year! I hope you all had a lovely summer.

We have an exciting year ahead. This term in Science we are learning about rocks and soils and our history topic is Stone Age to Iron Age Britain. We are hoping to arrange a visit from Owain Hughes who works at Salisbury museum who will arrange a fantastic day filled with lots activities, he will also bring in artefacts to handle that are thousands of years old!

Homework is changing slightly this year but every week the children will be expected to do the following:

  • Learn their speedy tables –  www.multiplication.com has some fun games to help with this and on mathletics there are times table songs. Each Friday there will be a speedy tables test where the children need to improve on the score that they achieved on the previous week.
  • Mathletics – Each week the children should gain 1000 points on Mathletics. Sometimes they will have set tasks, other times they will be able to choose between games or live challenges.
  • Reading – Children should be encouraged to read regularly and they all have a reading record which they can write in if they read on their own or an adult can write in if they were heard to read.
  • Reading challenge – This is an ongoing task. For every 5 books they have completed they get a special certificate and when they have completed 10 then they receive a book token.
  • Spelling – This will either be a spelling investigation to support the work that we do in class or it will be a word list. Spelling homework will be set on google classroom, which the children can access through their google login.

If you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to pop in or book an appointment. We always welcome help in school so if you are able to give any of your time we would be very grateful.

Gymnastics week

The children have been working hard on their gymnastics skills this week. We have used apparatus and thought about performing in time with music.

We look forward to showing our final pieces to class 2 tomorrow.

Foodscapes

For their art work the children have been learning about Carl Warner who created foodscapes. Yesterday they worked hard to create their own foodscape. They came up with fantastic titles for their work such as orange savanna,  the tropical islands of food and the living house. Please look at the brilliant foodscapes.

The great bread bake off!

As part of our D and T work this week Saturn class have been learning about bread. They have learnt about the process of bread making, tested existing products as well as researched the history of Warburtons and Hovis.

They have also baked bread rolls and  had to design their own roll, thinking about shape and flavour. They worked extremely hard  and the rolls were then judged by Mrs Tilley and Mr Hickman. Here are the results:

1st place – Bryn  for flavour and texture.

2nd place – Lydia for fantastic plaiting.

3rd place –  Isla for excellent texture.

Mrs Tilley was really impressed with all of the children’s efforts and had a tough time judging.

Beautiful weather

We have been making the most of the lovely weather. Yesterday we had our literacy lesson on the grass and held a brilliant debate about healthy living. Today we were excited to make the most of the new woodland area and worked in groups outside.
