Roald Dahl day

On Tuesday 13th September 2016 we will be celebrating Roald Dahl. This would have been his 100th birthday.

The children will enjoy lots of activities linked to his books.

If you have any books, audio, toys or anything else related to Roald Dahl please bring it into school.

Thanks

Welcome back!

Welcome back to the new school year! I hope you all had a lovely summer.

We have an exciting year ahead. This term in Science we are learning about rocks and soils and our history topic is Stone Age to Iron Age Britain. We are hoping to arrange a visit from Owain Hughes who works at Salisbury museum who will arrange a fantastic day filled with lots activities, he will also bring in artefacts to handle that are thousands of years old!

Homework is changing slightly this year but every week the children will be expected to do the following:

  • Learn their speedy tables –  www.multiplication.com has some fun games to help with this and on mathletics there are times table songs. Each Friday there will be a speedy tables test where the children need to improve on the score that they achieved on the previous week.
  • Mathletics – Each week the children should gain 1000 points on Mathletics. Sometimes they will have set tasks, other times they will be able to choose between games or live challenges.
  • Reading – Children should be encouraged to read regularly and they all have a reading record which they can write in if they read on their own or an adult can write in if they were heard to read.
  • Reading challenge – This is an ongoing task. For every 5 books they have completed they get a special certificate and when they have completed 10 then they receive a book token.
  • Spelling – This will either be a spelling investigation to support the work that we do in class or it will be a word list. Spelling homework will be set on google classroom, which the children can access through their google login.

If you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to pop in or book an appointment. We always welcome help in school so if you are able to give any of your time we would be very grateful.
