Welcome 2015-16

Welcome back to the new school year!

I am writing to give you some information on the topics and themes that Saturn class will be learning about this term.

Our main topic is the Ancient Egyptians.

  • In history the children will learn about key figures including Cleopatra, Caesar and Tutankhamen, as well as investigate everyday life and the importance of the River Nile.
  • Literacy will link with our topic and the children will be writing newspaper articles, stories, letters and information texts.
  • Maths will start with the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) and move onto shape, space and fractions.
  • In Science the children will be looking at forces and magnetism and investigating how these work.
  • Geography will link to our topic and the children will look at maps of Egypt and the River Nile and look at how important the river was in the past as well as its modern day uses.
  • Art will also be linked with our topic and the children will create canopic jars.

In year 3/4 the children will get regular homework that is set on a Monday and needs to be handed in on a Friday (this will be either Literacy or Maths and spelling homework). In addition they will have either reading challenges or bug club, speedy tables and they should be encouraged to read independently or to an adult regularly.

All the usual school equipment that the children require is provided but please ensure that your child has a named water bottle and PE kit in school every day.

I hope that your child settles into the new term well, if you have any questions or queries please let me know. I am looking forward to an exciting term!

Best wishes

Mrs Crompton
